TE Series Bus Heat Pump
TE Series Bus Heat Pump
Reduces bus emissions, maintains rider comfort and keeps buses on the road longer.
Battery-draining electric resistance heaters make electric buses less practical in moderate and cold climates. Thermo King offers a better alternative. Our TE Series Heat Pump is up to 2.5 times more energy efficient, which translates to more miles per charge. Plus, it keeps bus passengers comfortably warm in outdoor temperatures as cold as 20°F without a backup heating source.
Ultra-efficient HVAC helps solve cold-weather heating challenges
Proven HVAC technology makes sustainable public transportation more practical in more places. Thermo King is applying our industry-leading heat pump expertise to help make battery electric buses a realistic option for cold and moderate climates. By extracting heat from the outdoor air — instead of generating new heat from the vehicle battery — our TE Series Heat Pump keeps riders warm while enabling electric buses to drive more miles on a charge.
Run longer routes
Heat pumps are up to 2.5 times more efficient than electric resistance heaters. Based on Thermo King calculations, heat pump heating may extend vehicle range by over 50% in moderate (40°F) temperatures, and over 30% in cold (20°F) temperatures. *
Maximize the daily use of your battery electric bus fleet by running longer, uninterrupted routes. On heating days, the TE Series Heat Pump allows vehicles to stay on the road longer, with an extended battery charge.
* Estimates are based on a complete route running at static conditions, actual percentages will vary.
Prioritize rider comfort
Our TE Series Heat Pump heats bus interiors effectively when outdoor temperatures drop to 20°F. Colder climates may require a backup heating source, but our heat pump can provide full comfort benefits on milder days.
As an efficient heating and cooling solution, the TE Series Heat Pump provides a complete solution for year-round comfort. The heat pump version of the TE Series has the same capabilities as the cooling-only version, with additional operational modes for heating, auxiliary heating and defrost.
Achieve the lowest possible emissions
Take the decision to decarbonize your electric bus fleet one step further. Battery electric buses can achieve their lowest emissions when heat pumps are used in place of diesel fuel or electric resistance heaters.
By nature, heat pumps are the lowest-carbon bus HVAC compared to alternate heating options currently used in the market. Rather than generating new heat, they extract heat from outdoor air and move it into the bus interior, even on cold days. TE Series Heat Pumps can reduce or eliminate direct emissions produced by diesel fuel heaters. Indirect emissions are lower, too, because less power plant energy is consumed for battery charging.
Embrace the change (it’s simple)
Familiarity with Thermo King’s TE Series All-Electric Bus HVAC carries over to the TE Series Heat Pump. Our heat pump model has the same control strategies as the cooling-only model with additional functionality for cold-weather comfort. Changing operating modes is automated and handled internally by the Thermo King controller, eliminating manual steps that can distract drivers.
The TE Series Heat Pump has the same basic configuration as our familiar cooling-only units, which reduces the learning curve for installers and technicians.
