Peak Thermo King’s Technician Scott DeWaal wins Thermo King’s 2024 Top Tech Dealer Competition

Annual technician competition recognizes the industry-leading talent within the Thermo King dealer network’s skilled workforce.

Minneapolis, February 5, 2025 – Thermo King^®, the transport refrigeration brand of global climate innovator Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT) announced that Scott DeWaal of Salt Lake City, Utah-based Peak Thermo King is its 2024 Top Tech Dealer Technician.

Launched in 2023, the competition is part of Thermo King’s continual investment in customer service excellence and recognizes the value technicians bring to customers and the transport refrigeration industry by helping keep perishables safe throughout the food chain.

Our dealerships are committed to providing ongoing training and technical skills that keep them current on ever-evolving technologies to meet customer needs. This competition is one way we can honor and reward them.”

The second year of Thermo King’s competition attracted 120 participants from its North America dealer network, 20 more than its inaugural year. The competition consists of three increasingly challenging phases: a qualifier test, a virtually proctored and timed knowledge test, and a hands-on competition for the final 10 contestants. In the final round, technicians worked under pressure to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair various refrigeration units and auxiliary power units while being timed and judged.

The top three technicians won an all-expense-paid trip to Thermo King’s dealer principal meeting. Results were revealed live on stage with DeWaal, a 22-year employee of Peak Thermo King, taking home the top honor of 2024 Thermo King Top Tech Dealer Technician.

Aaron Hunt from CSTK East in Philadelphia, PA, and Nathan Morris from Transport Refrigeration, Inc. in De Pere, WI, came in second and third respectively.
