Thermo King® Introduces the 3rd Generation TriPac® Auxiliary Power Unit

Features available include TracKing® telematics, innovative emission reduction technology and improved operational efficiency

MINNEAPOLIS, April 27, 2023 — Thermo King, a leader in sustainable transport temperature control solutions, is proud to introduce the 3rd generation diesel TriPac® auxiliary power unit (APU). Building on the best-selling TriPac Evolution, the newest model provides the same comfort and performance customers expect but with added enhancements to reduce emissions, monitor unit performance and increase profitability.

The 3rd generation TriPac APU is available in two different models to add flexibility and help customers meet emission regulations. One model is a 49-state Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 compliant solution for aftermarket installations. The second model includes a new aftertreatment device (ATD) that is 50-state compliant with California Air Resource Board (CARB) and meets EPA Tier 4 compliance for new original equipment manufacturer (OEM) or aftermarket installations.

The Thermo King TriPac APU provides added value to customers with ESG targets because it eliminates unnecessary engine idling, which helps lower fuel consumption. The TriPac consumes approximately 75% less fuel per hour, which equates to 2,500 gallons each year or 10,000 gallons over the typical length of tractor ownership. In addition, it reduces the wear and tear on the larger tractor engine and improves resale value.

The Thermo King 3rd generation TriPac APU is the first in the refrigerated transportation industry to include telematics capabilities for an APU. Industry-leading TracKing telematics is now an available option on both 3rd generation models. Adding telematics provides the data needed to have a clear line of sight to the unit’s run hours, cabin temperatures, and fuel tax reporting. Real-time software updates, alarms, and maintenance reminders help ensure the APU runs smoothly.

The 3rd generation TriPac APU also features an updated controller and in-cab digital user interface, providing a premium, modern driver experience. The new digital controller provides drivers greater control over their comfort and APU operations with large cabin temperature readings, function icons, and toggling menus.
