Thermo King Introduces Precise Temperature Control Unit for Larger Vans

- Solution offers 50 percent greater cooling capacity -

Louisville, Ky., March 30, 2011 - In response to customers requesting more temperature management options for the growing larger commercial van segment, Thermo King will soon introduce innovative roofline application cooling solutions offering capacities 50 percent greater than similar units now available. J.D. Power expects the market for light commercial vehicles such as the Sprinter to grow 7 percent in 2011.

Thermo King, a manufacturer of temperature control systems for a variety of mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, will introduce the V-520 RT for fresh applications and the V-520 RT MAX for frozen applications in June.

These temperature management solutions will enable customers to increase energy and operational efficiency for smaller large-commercial van fleets which typically include three to 10 vehicles. For these fleets, owners and operators often prefer the less regulated, more maneuverable light commercial vans to straight trucks.

"We're pleased to offer our customers who prefer large commercial vans an industry-leading solution that significantly increases their cooling capacity for city deliveries," said Doug Lenz, director of product management for Thermo King. "The system also features easy-to-use Direct Smart Reefer control systems which provide comprehensive controls and diagnostics that simplify driver training."

The V-520 RT units are built on the proven technology of the V-520 nose-mount application for small trucks that was introduced in October 2009. The new units feature a low profile condenser that measures less than 7.5 inches above the roof to minimize risk of damage.

Benefits of the V-520 RT units include:

  • Reliable temperature management allowing customers to optimize energy and operational efficiency while ensuring high product quality
  • SmartPower™ electric standby to save fuel and reduce emissions
  • Superior pull down capability to reach set point quickly after a stop
  • Very low refrigerant requirement of only 4.5 lbs. which provides a more sustainable solution and is better for the environment

Thermo King will unveil the V-520 RT temperature control units for large van applications at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS):
